Frequently Asked Questions
What’s the most annoying part of being a Mum? When the kids ask the same thing over and over again! Here’s the answers to the most common questions we get, but if yours isn’t here, ping us a message and we’ll get back to you ASAP.
Where are you based?
We are a home based practice, just off Layer Road. Rather than share our home address on the internet, we’d prefer to keep it a little more secure.
When you have booked and paid for your initial appointment, you’ll be sent our full address with directions.
How long does the first visit take?
Generally speaking, the first visit takes about 45 – 60 minutes. This appointment is for us to learn all about you, your life and what you love doing. We want to know what’s going on for you at the minute, and what your goals are for chiropractic care. We’ll do this through a comprehensive health history, followed up with an examination to give us an idea of how well your body is dealing with the stresses of life.
Everything we do is based around your physiology – what your body is telling us.
So we use posture, blood pressure, heart rate, oxygen saturation, HRV and other measurable tests to get a baseline of your health & vitality. From that, we can design a care plan that fits into your lifestyle and will enable you to reach your health goals.
Will I get adjusted on the first visit?
Your first visit is really a chance for us to develop the foundations, and kick start your body’s healing process. Most often, you’ll be given an adjustment on the first visit, however, we’ll need a little bit of time to create the perfect program for you.
We love learning the details of your life, and when we design your care plan, we want to get it right the first time.
Does it hurt? I've heard some horror stories.
Most people find it’s really nice getting adjusted, as we tailor the techniques to the person in front of us. As you can imagine, babies aren’t adjusted the same way as soldiers.
There’s always an exception to the rule, and the person who feels sore after an adjustment is usually already in a highly protective state when they come in. E.g. if they have a flare up of an autoimmune condition or hurt themselves the week before.
In our practice, the focus is on chiropractic adjustments only. We don’t poke and prod your muscles, and you’ll certainly find no elbows in your bum! We’ll leave that to the physios and massage therapists, and stick to what we’re awesome at: chiropractic!
Is it really safe to see a chiropractor throughout my pregnancy?
Yes. Webster certified chiropractors are trained in caring for pregnant women, and we have super comfy pillows too!
How soon can I bring my children in to get checked?
On the way back from the hospital? Seriously, as soon as you like. The first two years of a child’s life are especially important to neurological development, so we’d love to see your little ones as soon as possible!
We love babies and children, and it’s always a pleasure to adjust kids. Often, we will do phone consultations with parents, so that the children don’t have to sit through the “boring” bit, so get in touch if that’s something that would work for you.
I miscarried before. How long should I wait before seeing a chiropractor?
Losing a baby is devastating, and some women prefer to get past that week of their current pregnancy before seeing a chiropractor for the first time. Chiropractic adjustments are gentle and safe throughout your pregnancy, so you can begin care at any point. We always recommend starting as early as possible, but we will welcome you with open arms whenever you’re ready.
I’ve been to a chiropractor before and it didn’t help. Why do you think this would be different?
This is something we hear a lot. Usually, it falls into two distinct categories.
- The care you received was focused on removing pain rather than correcting the underlying problem.
- You weren’t under care long enough to fix the problem.
The reason we test your physiology (aka function) is simple – it gives us an objective measurement of your response to your chiropractic care. Feeling is different to function, and a lot of the time you can feel better before your function is back on track. With our re-exams, we test the function and observe improvements over time.
We take a long term view to health, rather than looking for short term fixes.
Do I have to go to a chiropractor forever once I start?
Absolutely not – there’s no lifetime contract, and you make the decisions about your body and your care!
Consider our individual or family wellness plan if you want to continue functioning at your best physically, emotionally and socially.
Is this care available through the NHS?
Unfortunately not. We would love to be able to work with every woman throughout pregnancy and birth (and provide newborn checks!) but currently that level of care isn’t available through the NHS.
Will my health insurance policy cover my care?
Possibly. We don’t work directly with insurance companies, but we will happily give you a receipt for you to claim reimbursement. Please contact your insurance company in advance to check your coverage, as some have a session limit far lower than most chiropractors’ fees.
Payment for services
All payments are due at the time of your appointment, unless you have pre-paid. Credit will not be given under any circumstances.
Insurance companies can be awkward at the best of times; it’s your responsibility to check you’re covered through your insurance company before starting care.
We don’t bill insurance companies directly, nor do we write reports for them. If we did, we’d have to raise our fees to cover the admin time & we don’t want to do that.
We want to focus on serving our amazing clients and their families instead.
discounts & Offers
From time to time, special offers will be available to those of you on our email list. You’ve gotta be in it to win it!
Discounted care is available via pre-payment plans (see our pricing page) and to serving forces families only.
Other than that, we don’t do any specials even if you’ve got the gift of the gab! We’ve got families to feed.
cancellations & no shows
Cancelling with less than 24hours’ notice (or just not showing up) isn’t cool.
Please don’t be that person, or you’ll get a £10 late cancellation fee.
Our pre-payment plans were created to allow you the most cost-effective chiropractic care. When you buy a package, you can share it with family/friends or you can keep it all to yourself. Your choice.
